Ordered this card from them a few months ago. I haven't used mine yet, but my friend did and it worked great. Still seems like a good price.

refurb is no good for a hard drive... a failure would probably make your hard drive unreadable

I'd like to remind everyone of a discussion a few months before. The Digital research ATA/66 controller is EXACTLY promise ATA/66 as the one you are looking at. We got a whole bunch for 7 bux a piece and it comes with promise stickers and logos everywhere. I forgot which of the overstock companies that we bought it from... (don't know how to search into far past) but a look at pricewatch should shows consumer depot? I guess that's where I got it from...

There are very few problems with these and other hardware. It's often some other junk that can't share irq's or someone sticks it in the slot the shares the irq with the video card. Update the bios and use current drivers just like any hardware or better yet hack it to RAID and get your $'s worth out of it. You can even use multiples of these in the same PC. You just flash one with the "dummy" bios so they don't conflict. I've gotten these before as "refurbs" and they had never been installed in a slot before so they were actualy new.

I've never had a problem with a Promise Ultra 66 and other components and this is even in PCs that already have the regular ATA-33 IDE channels and HPT-370 ATA-66 channels (HPT-370 is the real crap). I avoid anything non-Promise for cheapo IDE and it's been wonderful. Especially if you run Linux, FreeBSD, etc...
