after i wiped my hdd, i decided to reformatt using ide operational instead of Raid 0+1( my old mode) after installing xp, it said that win xp doesn't support it. and when i checked, it used 2x the amout hdd space it was supposed to use... should i delete the partion and reformatt using raid 0+1 or should i try to switch to the via raid controllers? btw, i did push f6 at start up and my hdd is a 36.7 raptor...
thanks

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

You have to have at least 4 drives to run raid 0+1, and at least 2 drives to run ANY raid config. From you description it sounds like you only have one drive. Did I misunderstand? Could you rephrase your question?

Edit: BTW, this might get more resposes if you poted it in general hardware.

well it allows me to set up a raid 0+1 configuration if u have it set on raid in the bios.... and i no what raid is, u have the exact mobo u should no, and i don't no what to call it if it is registured as raid 0+1 even if i no it isn't,

No offence meant above, I just sounded like you might not know what raid is. Plus it was an exellent oppertunity to use a "Princes Bride" quote! :D

All I can tell you is I have 1 SATA drive and runs fine w/o having to use any raid functions. Once again, please don't take offence, but you sure it's pluged in to the right SATA jack? The board has two sets of sata jacks. One set adjacent to the floppy plug, and one set right below the raid ide plug. If you are running one drive, it should be pluged in to the "bottom" one of the two that are beside the floppy. (sorry, I don't know a less confusing way to say that :D ) If you're still confused, look at the mobo pcb around the sata jacks. The one you want to use has "SATA 1" printed right ABOVE it. If it's pluged in there, the board shouldn't even detect a raid device.

I'll keep thinking, and take a look at my bios, but just make sure that this isn't the problem. Hope we can get this cleared up for ya :D

no offense taken, and it is pluged into the primary one of the two that's below the ide raid contoller labeled PRI_SATA, i think that's the promsie ones...

then it's pluged into the wrong one. Try the one I described above. (bottom if the 2 beside the floppy plug, with "SATA 1" printed above it) The port you have it pluged into now is a promise port, which means it's a raid port, thats why it's telling you you have a raid array.

Don't forget when you install xp the promise drivers (the ones you are using now) are NOT the same as the drivers for the regular SATA ports (the ones you should be using) If your support cd is the same as mine, the correct drivers can be found by using a utility called "MakeDisk.exe" found in "D:\Drivers\VIARAID\6420RAID\DriverDisk" (I THINK, but it's been a few months since I did it.) If that doesn't work try copying all the files from "D:\Drivers\VIARAID\6420RAID\DriverDisk\SATA\Winxp" on to the floppy. (acctualy I think a floppy is big enough to fit both things at the same time)

Let me know what happens
