i bought a promise ultra66 controller for my zip and a cdrom... have tried installing according to manual's instructions. neither of the drives show up under My Comp, though. i'm running 98se. i get the "found new hardware message" and install -> reboot, but i still "can't find" the drives. when booting the machine, it says "ultra 66 bios not installed"

I got the Ultra 100 BIOS not installed message when I had my DVD and CDRW on the Promise as well....I think it just means that there is no boot drive on it.

When I put my hard drives over to it and set boot device as "SCSI" in my (motherboard) BIOS that message went away.

Look into device manager to see if you can see an "Other Device" or "SCSI controller" that has a yellow ! mark beside...if you can remove that and reboot.
When you get back into the add hardware wizard put in your floppy drive and point at the Win9x folder on the floppy.

You need more than the drivers; AFTER you install the drivers for the card, you need to install a BIOS patch for the card (available at Promise's site). However, I've been having trouble getting my own to work for the Ultra66 card (tells me the *.bin file they gave me isn't the correct version). I mailed their hardware support but haven't gotten word back yet...see if you have better luck.
