Promise fastrack66 and Windows2k

I just installed Windows2k, and I can't get it to setup after the restart. I had a feeling it had to do with the controller card, so I went to the promise webpage, only to find out that the promise card can only be used as data drives and is not bootable. Is there any way around this?

I don't think that's correct.

I use a Promise ATA/100 controller card, with W2K, and don't have any problems.

When you install W2K, you need to hit "F6" when prompted, select "S" and tell it the controller you plan to use. Then install the Promise drivers, when prompted. (about half way thru the install)

The bios needs to be set to "Boot from SCSI" (not IDE)........the bios thinks the Promise controller is a SCSI device.

Good Luck 🙂

Hi there. I don't have an answer, but I can empathize.

I gave up on my Ultra66 card and returned it and got my $30 back.

I really hope that you get it working, but after a full day on the computer with multiple reinstalls, I just gave up with the Promise and w2k (everyone laugh now). In the end, I don't miss it.
