As an alternative to the Quintets, Best Buy's Magnolia Home Theater stores have Mirage NanoSat systems, which run about $600, though I don't recall if that includes the subwoofer. I don't think so on that one. The Athena Micra 6 system (which is still available online) does include the subwoofer, however. Personally, I've had some okay experiences with Cambridge Soundworks stuff. I consider their $150 MicroWorks II system to be one of the best values in 2.1 powered audio, and the MegaWorks 5.1-channel systems wouldn't disappoint here. I haven't heard the Z-5500's subwoofer, but I've heard enough logitech subwoofers to understand their reputation for boomy bass. It's impressive for all of five minutes.

Yep, quite sad about Logitech's subs. Even my new rock bottom Velodyne sounds significantly better than my old Z-2300s with no boom. It's tight with plenty of output, and hard to localize (80Hz cross). Also, don't bother going HT unless you're willing to blow at least $500. I'm up to $700 now, and still only have 2.1...

I've owned 2 Klipsch speakers (the 4.1 systems).

Both died. Apparently they still haven't fixed the overheating issue within the sub/control box.
The klipsch forums are heavily moderated, and there have been SEVERAL threads about the same subject (by others) that were deleted.

I'll personally never buy klipsch again.

My Klipsch ProMedia 5.1's from 2001 are still going strong. The volume knob has always been buggy tho, but I usually use my keyboard volume anyways.
