Just ask her. You don't need to make it special, it already is special. A guy (YOU) is asking her to the Prom. It is beautiful in its simplicity. She does not want a special proposal. All she wants is to be asked to the Prom. Remember that she is probably nervous about it too, so just make it easy for her to say yes. Just stand up and hold her hand, look her in the eyes, smile and say, ?Will you go to the Prom with me?? Really when it all comes down to it, there is nothing more romantic then that.

And what ever you do, don't include her mom in it. Most teenage girls are not too keen on having their mom involved in their love life.

what I did for last year (took me forever to come up with too), I think I posted it back then, or maybe it was in a chat room. Anyway:

1) get a box of chocolates (preferably a heart)
2) on the outside write something like "The only girl I'd go to prom with"
3) then she opens it
4) on the backside of the top, you have a mirror of some type (lol, I think my was from a crest whitestrips box)
5) then another note with like "[name] will you go to prom with me" and then signed your name.

As cheesy as it is, it's rather cute and apparently works.

in my day, the guy asked the girl on their meeting in the hall between lunch and gym.

I think your idea to do with coffee is cute... this is how you could do it... alot of places have glaze your own pottery. You choose what type of piece to glaze. they have platters, plates AND coffee mugs. write 'would you go to prom with me" on the bottom of the mug and then finish glazing it. ask her to come over or give it to her mom ahead of time and then go visit her.
as her mom to offer you coffee and have her use that mug for her. When she gets done drinking the coffee... there will be the message.
It is a lot easier than it seems, if you pull it off, you will known as the romantic of your school!
