So chaperones did nothing about these 18-year olds drinking ?

We had one chick who was almost drunk when she got to the prom and she was reprimanded for it.

I think the point of this is that the school itself did not feel it was right for it to be the center stage for the debauchery. Obviously the school officials realize that the drinking/sex/etc is going to go on regardless, but for the school to be at the center of the "reason" that it all transpires on 1 given night, they fault it was wrong. Especially since they are a Roman Catholic School.

No positive movement on my sympathy meter. Actually the needle broke off and its just spinning counter clockwise over and over again with no end in sight.

We would call the parents to come pick up their daughter (or son) if they showed up after drinking. If we're aware that students are under the influence of alcohol, do you think that we (as responsible adults) should turn our heads and hope that the student doesn't drive later on? Or, would it be hard to disbelieve this headline: "Student dies in DWI crash following prom. Witnesses say school faculty knew the student was intoxicated but allowed the student to leave the prom on her own."

I agree with what was done by the school.

Seconded. From what I imagine, this school is full of "My Super Sweet 16" candidates, and taking the air out of their spoiled sails is fine by me.

If the needle broke off, how is it still spinning?

I said it before and I'll say it again. we should tie a bunch of tugboats to long island and drag it out to sea and make it its own country.

screw making it an island, we should drag it out there and then scuttle it

Not to quibble, but Long Island already IS an island. Anyway, a good hurricane or two will bring the Guyland back to what it used to be, and ought to be - potato farms.

Anyway, the school is right to do what they're doing. All it takes is one person suing the school for /insert stupid action here/ and the school will be up to its yippies in legal bills.

At least the drinking and sex won't happen during a school sponsered event. I think that's the point.
