Are laptop projectors, used for slide presentations, capable of adding animations and layers?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by animations and layers, but my buddy (who's a cheap @$$) uses a Dell projector which is meant to be used for powerpoint presentations and such, as the projector in his home theatre (or what he refers to as his home theatre). Plays DVD's, playstation and watches TV on it all the time. So if that's what you're looking for it does work, but it doesn't look very good at all.
