u sure the component would be best signal? i'd have thought DVI would be, if your card has DVI output, no loss due to conversion down and up again.

edit: btw, we always pay more for techonology over here.....the 7800GT just got launched, priced at £300-£325 (basic or BFG OC), thats around US$500-550......which is what u guys pay for the GTX....lol

I'm of course not sure if component is in fact the best. It is just what I have heard and read. I'm sure it will be ok. If for any reason there is any issues, I just might go with the adapter for DVI. Does DVI support 16:9 aspect ratio? I was told Component definately does so I went that way.

Oh Nat, I have pics of that server I'm selling if you want them. I will place them in my FS/FT thread in a few minutes.

Cheers

For what its worth, I have been running 16:10 ratios with my GFti4200 over DVI to my GF's 30" widescreen TV for about 6 months now, works pretty well except for the dreaded over scan. Addtionally, it is pretty easy to set custom resolutions with nvidias drivers, not so much for ATI's.

I'll be checking out the pictures for sure ;)

component is the best analogue cable.....

thing is, your computer is digital, and your projector is digital, so the best way to send a signal is.....ta da..a digital cable.....heh...ie DVI......you will still enjoy using the component, but i'd imagine its cheaper to buy a good quality DVI cable at length than a good quality component cable.....even if you have to buy the adapter....

and yes DVI will support 16:9....my Denon 3910 DVD player has DVI output which i plan on using for high action films with my projector (usually it will be component to my surround amp so i can switch with my digibox and consoles from one remote., but when i want really high quailty i will use the DVI....unless my dvd player has HDMI, cant remember now...lol..too many things u can plug in on the damn thing, gorgeous picture tho, even on a cheap Philips 28in Widescreen)

I've got the infocus x1 projector, and after two years, my only regret was not getting a mount for it immediately.
I also went to the sites mentioned by Marklar and Matt__, before buying. It's best to watch it in action, to make sure you're not sensitive to the 'rainbow effect'.
I don't see it, so I guess I'm lucky (but not seeing it, it's hard to know what I might be missing... plenty of reading on those sites about it.)

If it weren't for the low-light requirement (varies depending on model, lumens), projectors would be out-selling plasma screens, I think.

price-wise, it is a no-brainer (though motorized screens tend to run quite a bit more than manual)

enjoy it, once you decide.

It's not quite that simple the digital is always better than analog.

I mean for example some DVD players to a better job running component out than digital, some tvs that are digital have better pictures through component than digital etc.

Also, I haven't looked into it at all, but are we sure the DVI to M-1 adapter is a really good conversion that's lossless? I'd assume so.

Yeah! Another projector thread! I?ve had mine since the end of June and have since installed everything and no regrets.

I see a lot of comparison to plasma screens... obviously the biggest advantage of a projector is the screen size to price ratio, but even better, is the fact that DLP and LCD do not suffer image burn problems like plasma panels do! It's funny seeing people spend $5000 on a plasma screen and the high lasts about 6 months before they notice permanent ghosting and can?t do anything about it. For me replacing a $300 bulb once or twice every 2 years is way more acceptable than having to throw away the panel/projector and buying a new one, esp. at the plasma prices.

I am running a Sanyo Z3 720p LCD projector on a 106? permanent 16:9 wall screen and the pixels are about 1/16 of an inch square and the pixel grid at 4 feet is less defined than a 50? plasma screen of the same resolution!! Further than that it disappears completely! At maximum brightness, if you could not find the projector, you?d think it was a flat panel (and only 1? thick at that!!)

Anyway, some pics of my setup for those still on the fence about projectors:
