Projector

Hi,
I got a projector for my 20th birthday, or more correctly I was prommised one. It's up to me to buy it. So now I'm wondering which one to get. I'm mainly going to use it as a home cinema (although it'll probably endup being connected to the computer anyway, since I don't have a standalone DVD player), however I'd also like to use it for presentations and games. Anyone has any recommendations, the budget is somewhere around 2000 US dolars?

Thanks in advance

Wow..$2K should get you a very decent one.

I can't give you a recommendation as to which one will fit your needs, but from my experience, you need to look into these features:

- Lumens - 1500, 2000 or so...
- There are two types that I know of: DLP and regular..I think DLPs are better but are $$$.
- Contratst Ratios
- Bulb Life
- Noise factor
- Obviously the types of connections it offers
- The Weight if you plan on lugging this around.

You can check out Home Theater Forum - do a google search - they will be way more helpful.

I have done a lot of research into this.

check out www.projectorcentral.com for just about everything you need. For that price, you should get the Panasonic PT-AE700U, it will cost you about $2200, but it's the best for the money right now. (as long as you want 16:9 widescreen stuff)

check out there roundup of the best low, medium and high priced projectors here http://www.projectorcentral.co...timedia-projectors.htm

don't forget you'll need a long video cord and a screen. screens can be pricey too.

Also check out http://www.hometheaterforum.com/index.php
they are the forum nazis though.

Unforsulantely the Panasonic AE700 is probably outside my price range, perhaps a bit more careful spesification of the budget would be up to 2000 (but prefarable a bit below).
I having been lookng at the Sanyo PLV-Z2, anyone got any experience with it?

You really need to go to www.avsforum.com. They have an entire forum dedicated to lower-cost digital projectors, where all your questions have probably been asked and answered a dozen times before. forum link

Do you have a relative large room with good light controls? If not, you may want to consider plasma (42" HD ones can be had for close to 2000 now -- well more than 2000 but under 3000).
