Projector Screen

looking for a projector screen for a christmas present, needs to be at least a 90" 16:9 format

preferred from newegg, and the cheaper the better, also, be so kind as to link to it?

not really an option, this is a gift from my mom to me, and she doesnt really want to dink with ordering a bunch things, she would rather just order a screen and be done with it

That's a pretty decent one. I've got one that is similar , you need to take into account the room that it is going in though. Some rooms are darker or lighter than others , and the viewing surface , white - silver metallic - glass beaded... make a difference in how visible the picture will be. If you are worried about $$ you can cut back on screen size to get one of the screens that have a higher quality surface....(some like the glass beaded , are sweet , but can't be cleaned with like a washcloth) many options out there. I'll look for a link.

i will be sitting about 10-11 feet away from the screen. its getting close to christmas, so whatever im going to do, ill have to order today if im to have any hopes of it being here my christmas. thanks guys 🙂

I've got the el cheapo Infocus 76 screen and it actually looks damn good. It's matte white with a 1.0 or 1.1 gain (I think). It's not perfectly flat (can see faint shadows during the day), but can't detect anything ripples when I'm actually watching something on the screen with the room darkened.

From my own use of my own 4805, I think my preferred screen size for dvd with this projector would be 96 inches 16:9 diagonal.

I highly suggest you invest a bit more, and look at the Da-lite Model B, and get it with either the High Contrast Matte White Screen. or the High Power if most of your seating is within a 30 degree angle.

The aspect ratio is not significant - just about any screen can be opened to 16:9. There are other variables - free standing? Ceiling mounted? Wall mounted? Lots of choices here. Da-Lite is very good value.

But this meets your specs - and $35 is pretty darn cheap from NewEgg.

Screen

The black "lining" framing these 16:9 screens really adds to picture quality, IMO, so I would definitely get a 16:9 screen to match your native 16:9 projector.

The one you refer to at NewEgg looks very similar to my Infocus screen (just need to check it's gain) and I think it would probably work well with your projector (I nailed it to a wall and always leave it down).

Screen

nice screen, but about 150 over budget

The screen you have linked at NewEgg looks very similar to my Infocus screen (except 76 diagonal and the rod at the bottom of mine is black instead of white).

I think it would probably make a very good budget, starter screen (I'm very happy with my el cheap matte white Infocus screen; I'd like a larger diagonal, but the 76 inch diagonal actually fits perfectly on the wall I've got it on and 16:9 material is plenty big; it's just 2:35 film material that I think would benefit from a larger diagonal).

Anyways, just make sure you can place your projector about 14 feet (I'm guessing) from the screen or your projector won't fill that screen, even with maximal zoom. You'll have to sit closer than the recommended 2x screen width recomendation, so you may see some screen door effect, but the pq is so beautiful that you, like me, probably just won't care.

Good luck!

well, i just ordered my screen and added the additional 2.99 rushing fee. not sure if it'll do any good, though. im hoping for before xmas delivery 🙂

I think you will be happy.

I have tried projecting on a bare wall the picture actually looks quite good. Paint is off white / beige and you can see that the colors just don't have the vibrant pop that they do on the matte white screen.

And I do think that "framing" the picture with the black border does make a big difference in my perceived picture quality.

Because it's not a screen drawn tight onto a rigid frame, and because of the large diagonal, your screen will probably have subtle ripples in it that you can see as faint shadows during the day when looking at the screen from certain angles. However, when I watch something on the screen at night, these faint subtle ripples aren't essentially detectable at all. If you can, once you've found the proper screen height (I believe your eyes should focus on the bottom third of the screen from your preferred viewing position so as to not create neck strain), just mount the screen and hopefully just leave it pulled down in viewing position all of the time. And really take the time to level and square the screen to your preferred viewing position as I think it really allows the projector to snap into very, very sharp focus.

Good Luck!
