So I got my new house, and we're moving stuff in, and I'm trying to figure out the optimal configuration for the living room. If I get a projector, I can mount a shelf on the wall above the couch and conduit for the wiring. It would be about 14 feet from the wall, what size image would that give me?

Once im back in Houston on Monday i will take some new pics of the new additions

Perhaps, but I have a feeling that may cost more than I'm capable of spending...
Plus a projector will be mounted safely out of reach of our children, I know someone with a nice big screen TV that's already got two scratches on it from children.

I have an infocus 4805 Projector. It does 16:9, HD and everything. Picture is EXCELLANT and Clarity is great. I have it throwing about the same distance as you and it projects almost a 100" image.

Becareful the projecotr will cast that image like 4 feet or something higher than it is.... Like if you set it on the floor the picture willl go 4 feet off the ground. You you are going to mount it high, i recommend a ceiling mount, the projector has all the revisions to hook to one though.

Yep, I plan on doing a ceiling mount. I will, of course, have to experiment with height and placement. It'd be nice to avoid using the keystone on the Sanyo if possible, based on the review.

how much is the Sanyo? I didnt look at the specs, but I know the 4805 is supposed to be one of the best bang for the buck projectors that is out.

I've got my projector mounted about 13' from my wall. I need to bury the cables but haven't had the time.

If you are going to put the projector in a shelf, make sure you buy a forward exhaust projector or else you'll have heat issues.

B&H photo has it for about $670 shipped for me.

I agree with the ceiling mounting to keep it away from little fingers.

I have a 4805 also and got quite the deal on it for $999 and it included a 76" screen. I'm very happy with it.

It doesn't do HD though, and neither will that sanyo.

They will both accept HD signals, but they will scale down to the resolution of the projector.

Pasting my experiences in a bunch of "what kind of projector should I ..." threads.

I just got a 1280x720p LCD projector and the image is gorgeous.

Gamecube and PS2 don't do it justice at all! But they still look incredible even though I'm projecting onto a flat off white textured wall (106" 16:9 screen is on the way) and using a composite RF cable (component and HDMI cables on the way as well.)

The above images where taken with the PS2 playing a DVD on a composite RF connection on that flat wall... imagine when it's set up properly. Escaflowne in 4:3 mode with black bars on the sides and T2 in 2.85:1 with black bars on top and bottom.

Can't see the black bars? Thats how great this LCD projector is with 2000:1 CR and dynamic iris. Primary purpose was for gaming so I wanted the brilliant color that 3 panel LCD can provide, but movie performance has impressed me greatly as well.

Full white image shows not a single defective pixel and image is spotless, perfectly uniform, not dirty, banded, etc. This completely pwns plasma; only 1" thin screen, 12 lbs weight, 106", and no burn in, just have to replace a $300 bulb, not a $5,000 panel.

It's a Sanyo PLV-Z3 I picked up brand new for $1500. Should do me well till 1920 x 1080p becomes more popular.

PS3 will be native 1280 x 720p with HDMI output.... DROOL
