Wasn't too sure where I should post this, but in Off Topic it would turn into another pointless XB360 Vs PS3 flame war. I more or less wanted this to be a discussion about the technology of the game.

Anyway, The game is named "Project Offset" (for now) and my god it looks good! If this is even a taste of what is to come in the next five years, I can't wait. The models look better than what we saw in Unreal3 (I think) and there is soft shadowing and motion blur on EVERYTHING. You must watch the videos, the low-res videos were well encoded.

If someone wants to host the hi-res videos I have them. (If it doesn't go against IGN's rules of whatever)

Look at my sig. Offset engine will set the standards of the future.. ;)

Effects such as motion blur, depth of field, and specular bloom are all possible with the engine's post processing architecture.

The Offset Engine is the first engine to utilize true cinematic quality motion blur on all objects. Rather than being something that is applied as a simple special effect, the motion blur works uniformly on everything that gets rendered, including moving and deforming objects and particles. This, combined with unified lighting, shading, and shadowing, bridges the gap in quality between real time and prerendered graphics.

Download the video if you haven't done that already..

What video card(s) are going to be needed to render that engine at say 1600x1200 at 70+ fps?

This game is for the PC...

And is currently unconfirmed for PS3 or X360. They don't even have a publisher for it yet..

But nevertheless it does look insane and make me feel bad about my most recent computer upgrade. :p

Actually the difference between 70 an 30 FPS is quite noticeable . . . the point at which you probably won't notice is around 60 fps . . .

Yep and if this is average fps the lows always dip into chokesville and so I always like to try and run on the high side of average fps. Also big difference in WoW versus BF2 and if you want to be very competative or not.

We probably don't see this as standard yet b/c game devs want to target more than the say 50-100k ppl with a 7800+ or X1800+. Or, from the flip siade, they don't want to exclude the *many* more ppl still running DX8 cards.

But, soon, hopefully. X360 and PS3 should give development of engines this sweet a nice kick in the pants.

Yes that's I believe too Pete. Too bad the console market hasn't given development yet to such a great engine..
Among the spectacular characteristics of the engine I distinguished the motion blur. Now this is what motion blur is supposed to be not the crappy and idiotic "implementations" we have seen so far that only made me laugh out loud..
Have you watched the trailer Pete? :)

LOL we won't be seeing games like this for at LEAST 5 years... and it won't be by this company. This 'company' has 7 people at the moment, and only one of them is a programmer.

Why do you say that... I don't think it looks any better than Unreal Engine 3 (don't get me wrong I was blown away by these Project Offset videos) and Unreal Tournament 2007 is set to be released middle of this year...

LOL there's no way UT 2007 will look like this. We can put money on it if you're that sure.

Put money on it? Yea... ok...

In what ways do you mean UT 2007 will not look like this? Motion blurr aside I think they look very similar...
