Project CARS has been out how long and they are saying there is sequel announced? And crowd funded... oh great!

I can see the board meeting. "Hey, we just made a bunch of money on a crowd funded game. How can we get a bunch more money without giving up any of the rights to the products like traditional investors? Let's crowd fund again!"

Make profits, keep profits. Then tell the fans to give you money again for a sequel. ....So how long until EA starts doing this stuff guys? *Dangles westwood studio's logo in front of everyone* "want a new blade runner kiddies? C'mon, dig it in deep"

What's worse is this means you'll get no updates for the original game. No tracks or cars because those will all go into the next game.

So glad I never bought this game.

SlightlyMad studius sounds FullyMad to me.

I enjoyed Shift 2 and was planning to pick up Project CARS, but why would I do that with a "bigger and better" version seemingly right around the corner? This seems like a dumb move on their part.

Unfortunately, I believe that is probably going to be the case. I really had high hopes for Project Cars, it's got a lot going for it, but it has been somewhat disappointing. Same old routine; everything is going to be perfect with the next installment.

They said they will still be providing cars and updates to Project Cars. And the physics system isn't broken. Feels great. Played some tonight actually.

I visited the WMD platform they are using to pull funding. Its a mess. They should have just used Kickstarter.

Slighty Mad is a very small team with a long development cycle. Project CARS took them 4 years to develop, so to me, it only makes sense to start the next development cycle for Project CARS 2.

I don't know why this is surprising people. Almost every major studio starts working on a sequel after a successful release, especially considering it can take 4-5 years to get the next one out.

I think why people are miffed is because they believe support for PCARS will drop with the team working on PCARS2. That remains to be seen, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt until they prove me wrong.

I really like PCARS and have played it a ton, but I do think they should license more cars and reward the community for providing over half of the (small) development costs. An announcement like that would have probably gone over much better. The reason they didn't license more cars in the first place is because the dev budget was (compared to Forza or GT) tiny. I believe $5M. Considering they have sold a million copies, and had over half the dev costs covered by the crowd, I would think they're sitting pretty well right now.

______

That being said, I think the new direction they're going with PCARS2 is not a good one. It sounds like they want to throw together every kind of racing (including dirt) they can get in there, and I don't think that's what most people want.

I would rather have a game focused purely on road racing, because it takes focus to do something really well. We already have games like Dirt Rally to cover that side, and there's no way they're going to be able to do something better when they're splitting efforts between so many disciplines.

And for God's sake - work on the AI and damage models. BeamNG pretty much obsoleted the crappy approaches used by PCARS, Asseto, GT, Forza...pretty much everybody else.

This "we're going to provide ALL the things!" approach they're taking for the second game does not have me excited at all.

I'm a bit miffed that they release a game and merely a month later announce a sequal, that's just not good for a company. At least Evolution didn't do that with Driveclub, that would make a ton of people mad.

Yes it's bug ridden (mostly on XB1 platform) but physics engine isn't broken, it has one of the best physics compared to most other sim racers.

Just about every game that is released is immediately followed be a new project with no delay, whether it is a sequel or not. These are usually hidden because they don't use public funding for these new projects.

I personally would never help fund a video game early in development, because way less than half of games ever get released.

On PC, I haven't encountered any bugs or noticed any physics issues.

It runs smooth as glass.

I can't comment on the console versions. I've heard some issues there.

Completely agree. From people getting upset about early access to people getting upset about sequel spacing, it really shows how out of touch people are from how games are made. The studio can't sit and tread water for a year to wait for when people will be ready for some news about a new game. They start now and launch in 3-4 years.

I think as time goes on people will become more informed about how games are created and what the risks are.

The issue is, this isn't some kind of actual company making money that can afford to pay developers to start developing a new game. This company is specifically asking for money so they can make a sequel of a game JUST released.

This studio either didn't make enough money on this release to support developing a new product OR simply wants to milk the morons who think crowdfunding is some kind of great idea.

Yes exactly. This isn't Microsoft working on the next Halo game after they ship the current one because they have billions of dollars to do it. This is a company who asked people to pay the development cost and is trying to do it again when their current game still needs work.

The entire point of their first crowd fund campaign was to get capital to make a product to sell. If they already have that product to sell, why do they need MORE money to create additional products? Either they are managed by incompetence OR they aren't selling their product. Either way doesn't bode well for a sequel.

I agree and don't know what they're thinking myself. People say the game has major problems on console that should be addressed prior to announcing a second title. I bet when Asseto Corsa hits XB1 and PS4 that people will forget about Project Cars on console.
