Progress 8.6 Database Password Recovery

Hi All,

I have a client with a legacy app running on win nt 4.0 server and it uses a Progress 8.6 DB.

The old DB Admin had issues with the company and left but didn’t leave the DB admin password. We need to recover the password to be able to do anything with the database.

Anyone have any suggestions?

look like you are SOL. You might be able to use something like http://www.openwall.com/john/doc/FAQ.shtml john the ripper to recover the password, however, information on how and where passwords are stored is scarce.

Try and contact the old DB admin. He should have left the password somewhere.

Did your Admin document passwords for other things? Sometimes they use the same password for certain things.... at least we do it at my company like that.
