Programs which are not capitable with Windows XP

I have the program, "Intel Create & Share Software." It worked with my old computer, which had Windows ME, but it doesn't work with my new one, which has Windows XP Home Edition.

When I try to install the following software, it tells me that Windows XP does not support it, and suggests that I should "upgrade" to Windows 98. (roll eyes).

Anyway, I was wondering if there was a way in which I can get around this? This is a rather expensive program and it wouldn't really make sense for me to de-grade to Windows 98, or to just simply throw away the program and hence the camera which came with it.

If there is something to download which would make this program work, please tell me. 🙂

Thanks!

Have you tried the compatibility tab?

This doesn't work with all proggies but does with some. Go into explorer and find the exe file that you use to start the program and right click it. Choose properties then the compatability tab. Select the emmulation mode for the OS you want then try it. No guarantees but your best bet without upgrading.

If you don't have a credit card, try and find someone who does who can do it for you. Otherwise call or email them and ask about sending a check or money order.

If it's a USB camera, did you try just plugging it in to see if XP recognizes it anyway?

Perhaps you don't need the software?

SemperFi- Are you a part of SemperFi?
Anyway, Im afraid I have no idea what you are talking about, haha...
I don't have the program installed.

LTC8k6- Yeah, the computer recognizes the camera. But I can't get the actualy shariing program to work. The camera's bascially useless without it.

I have an intel USB video camera III and I was able to get it to work with Movie Maker and Picture It for video and still captures without the software.

I wonder if it will work with something like Yahoo messenger? Only one way to find out, I guess. 🙂

I suspect it will, since XP recognizes it.

I do have the software for it around here somewhere. I will see if I can get around the problem and let you know.

I got the software to install, but it does not work.

I right clicked the setup program on the CD, clicked properties, clicked the compatibility tab, and selected to run it in windows 98 mode. Then I double clicked the setup program and it installed.

That is what SemperFi meant.

Where can you get the program, Picture It?
All I really want to do with the prog now is to take some video captures and still pictures. Is there any other prog that can do this?

I don't see the "captability" option under the Setup Properties.

It's actually Picture It express, which I have several copies of. It comes free with some packs Avery labels and it's included with Works Suite. It captures stills off of the camera fine.

Corel Photo house works for capturing stills also.

Word 2000 successfully inserted a capture directly into a doc.

I have also tried Adobe Photo Deluxe and it works there too. I think it will work with any program where you can choose to get a photo from a camera.

Would PSP be able to do this?
Not just take pictures directly from the camera---- but pictures from a VHS.

(With Create & Share Software I was able to take pictures from a VHS).

Thanks for your responses, btw.

Movie Maker is part of XP and it should do that.

I have no way to test it, though.

Click on record and see what happens. You should get a choice of devices for the video source.

Yeah, I don't see any way to capture a frame with Movie Maker.

Maybe you just need to get one of those USB video capture devices like a Dazzle?

I would, but a Dazzle is very costly, haha. I might as well get a new camera. 🙂

Anyway, Thanks for your help. I'll see what I can do. 😉
