Programs that will transfer programs from old hard drive

I am rebuilding a computer for a friend's mom. I am looking for a program that can transfer programs that were installed on her old HDD to the new hard drive. Programs like acronis can restore to dissimilar hardware, but since I am going from XP pro to XP home I can't use acronis. Does anyone know of a program that can do this?

I don't think you can do this. You will need to install programms to a new os.

You could try and copy the folders but I wouldn't suggest it.

That will most likely not work for 99% of the programs installed.

Unless you meant you wouldn't recommend it.


OP's best bet is to use the Files and Settings Transfer wizard in XP
to move whatever he can, and just reinstall his applications.
Sure, there are buyable programs out there to do what the OP is asking for,
but all the reviews are a mixed bag.
