Programs that don't play well with Seti@Home

I'm tring to compile a list of programs that do not work right when seti is running. Here's wthe 2 that I know of

Perfectdisk 2000 (runs VERY slow with Seti running)

PC-Cillin Antivirus (Also runs VERY slow with Seti Running)

I'm pretty hardcore into Quake3 multiplayer and I tweak my system out for smooth online play, high FPS. I notice (and am annoyed by) reduced FPS and choppyness if Seti or dnet is running while I play.

No problems here.....

I get a slow down in scrolling emails and opening them while SETI is running. I have become so used to it now that it does not even bother me.

There's a pretty common (not everyone seems to experience it for some reason) problem with Outlook2000 and the SETI command line client under Windows 2000. I've got a bunch of machines at work that get delays/pauses when working in Outlook. So far all attempts to resolve it have failed.

Another one I noticed when setting up a system for my Mom was WinMX. With the SETI service installed it was very slow scrolling windows or changing between them in WinMX. It went away after stopping the SETI service.

I'm confused.

Why would people want to run other programs on the computers running SETI?? I mean, doesn't everybody just build machines specifically for the purpose of running SETI alone?!? :Q

What's wrong with you? 😕

networkman: Hey, not everyone has computers devoted only to SETI. Some of us have other necessary programs running on our computers. Take SetiQ for example... 😉 🙂

No probs with AVP & SETI here🙂

Its always a good idea to turn SETI off when playing games ,it does sometimes interefer with games slightly as you've noticed

I take it you mean the 2k version?

I take it perfect disk is some kind of defragging tool?
I think you'll find that any defragging tool will run slowly with SETI going ,Nortons speed disk resets itself ,this is because SETI writes to the disc at regular intervals ,I would think that most DC projects would do the same

Seti seems to have no effect on Diskeeper 7 or O&O drfrag

Assimilator1: CoolMon has an option to ignore specified processes when calculating total CPU usage. For some reason, I cannot make it ignore Seti.

Peace,
Will
