Also interested. I have a lot of stuff I'd like to "de-commercial" and haven't because I'd like an efficient way to do it.

I tried virtualdub but it says "MPEG Import Filter: pack synchronization error" for every file that I recorded with my PVR-350.

I dont know about existing software, but i could write one if i had the time. The way to detect the commercial is that there are a few blank frames that dont exist in the commercial or show sequence. If you know C/C++ you could do your own. :)

There are serval options to do this

1- use MPEG Video Wizard to edit out commercials. If you are doing a half hour show you will generally end up with 3 segments which you can combine back into one file using TMPGEnc's mpeg tools section.

File>mpeg tools>merge and cut

2-once joined then you can useSimpledivx to convert to divx

OR you can follow this guide:

Here and use TMPGEnc DVDAuthor to load the original file and edit out the commercials with that, author the disk to a folder then follow the instructions in the guide.

I was going to recommend TMPGEnc as I use that to make my resulting MPG w/o commercials (PVR-350 should be MPEG-2 source files)... (then VirtualDubMod to convert to divx.)

I will check out MPEG Video Wizard also...
