Programs "access denied" to hdds

This started after I reformatted. Programs are unable to create files on my secondary drives. Examples are 7zip, uTorrent, etc. All the permissions look good. Under ownership it said the drive was owned by "System." I tried changing it to my admin user account and it still doesn't work. Turning UAC off doesn't help. The C drive is owned by "Trusted Installer." So what's the deal?

Have you tried taking ownership of the drives? It would have been best to not have those secondary drives connected when you reformatted.

Did you reformat all the drives? Did you delete all the partitions and start over? Maybe try renewing or rebuilding the file tables. This is more of an OS problem. What OS are you using. Starting in XP when you install the OS it was writing something to the MEMBER OR FAT table or whatever they call it. It could be a pain in the neck. Reformatting the drive does not delete the boot member. Some things are so difficult with Microsoft that you have to do a low level format to get rid of them.

Try turning sharing on or something like that. Try using windows explorer and look at the drives.

Windows 7 is an ownership / permissions nightmare. They screwed up real bad. I spent 2 hours trying to figure out why I couldnt enable Windows Event Log service so I could get ventrilo running. Finally I said screw it and went with teamspeak. lol but if you dont have an alternative like that I imagine it would be very frustrating. All I can say is they really really REALLY screwed up.

You should be able to right click on the drive letter, to go properties -> security -> advanced -> owner -> edit -> choose your user account. Check the box that says replace owner on subcontainers and objects and click apply. It will take a while, but you will eventually have ownership of all those files.
