ahhaha i've seen plenty of those.

well wouldn't ya know it... calling around, everyone is fresh out of programmable thermostats. the one i linked to is on backorder at Canadian Tire and they have already issued 43 rain checks.

my wife already has a rain check for it for $30 so hopefully I can pick one up sometime before Dec. 1st to get that $15 credit.

edit: i'm going to call Home Depot and Rona to see if they have a comparable price.

The furthur the set points are spread, the longer the equipment has to run to catch back up. Another thing to think about is the furniture in the house only gets heated on the surface and eventually will get completely warmed (or cooled), therefore it takes longer for things to reach temperature and cause the equipment to run more.

I've heard this argument before, but never as more then a seat of the pants/urban myth type argument. Any research to back it up?

lower temperature = less heat transfer/loss = less energy use
