I am looking for a program that will OCR a pdf file.... is it possible? how bout the conversion sequence if it's not possible. can I convert to a different file, then OCR?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The easiest way would be to use Adobe Acrobat (full version, not the reader!). You could also print the document, scan it and use any free OCR program. Maybe there are also some plugins for Adobe Acrobat Reader for ripping the text, but these plugins are usually not free.

I am not looking for free. I am looking for something that has the ability to take a pdf file and OCR it into word. know of any? What are the free ones?

P.S. I have the Acrobat full. I am scanning a document into a pdf file (only way to do it with this digital sender) and I was to ocr the document. Anything?

Here's two..
Omni Page Pro
Visioneer Pro
Sorry I don't have links handy.
Iv'e seen Visioneer work, it's good, although I can't say for sure
if it "plugs in" or not. Good chance you can print the doc to it somehow, or print it to fax software that allows you to save the fax as an image, I know Visioneer will read fax tiffs, as well as lots of other image formats. With good clean text Visioneer will give you 99+% after OCR. I'll see if I can find a link for them.

Omni page pro doesn't work (at least version 10 doesn't).... I'll have to check out Visioneer
Thanks...

i've tried capturing the screen, and then saving it as an image file, but i have never quite gotten the resolution and dpi correct for it to work well... for OCR...

Try Adobe Acrobat 4.0 (full version). This has a "Capture Page" selection. Once I "captured the page," I just hit select all and copied and pasted into a word file.
Simple and effective.

Don't know if this would help, but there is a pdf to rtf converter. The product, BCL Drake, is a plugin for Acrobat 4 Full Version and costs $200. There is, however, a limited demo available.

I've converted a lot of PDF files into word by cutting and pasting:

1) In Adobe Acrobat, set the view mode to "continous" (very important)
2) With the text select tool, drag the mouse to highlight the entire PDF.
3) Paste into Word.

This process will preserve basic formatting of the text (bold, italic, fonts, etc...). Is this what you want to do, or am I missing something?
