program to display system utilities such as cpu, ram and harddisk usage.

I've seen things like this on users wallpapers when they post them. Looking for something that displays the following:

system uptime
ram usage
cpu usage
hd space/info
time/date


neat stuff like that.

was using this with windows sidebar:

i just don't want to use the sidebar.

Well since you don't need the info displayed all the time on wallpaper, your build-in Windows Task Manager will tell you about your cpu & ram.

Your built-in Windows Programs Properties will tell you your hd space/info (start / right click My Computer / right click the hard drive of interest / Properties).

Time / Date are also built into Windows, look in tray, mouseover or else right click it.

Another alternative: see if http://www.gtopala.com/ SIW gives you what you want.

i realize that windows has all of those features(and have for the past 10 years). i'm looking for some program related to what i posted in the OP.

Check out the plugins that are available. You will still have to do some configuration that may require setting text parameters, and there is a bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it it's a very configurable utility.
