Program to break big PDFs into individual smaller PDFs

I'm going to be working on a project soon where I will need to open up large PDFs and then cut out individual articles and turn them into individual PDFs. Could someone please recommend a cheap (or better yet free) program for doing this? (I don't want to spend $500 on a full version of Acrobat; this is a non-profit undertaking.)

This probably won't be as simple as cutting individual PDF pages; it will probably be necessary to cut PDF pages in the middle.

That's a pretty neat program. I tested it out and I like it, but I think I might need to be able to cut content in the middle of pages. I'm hoping to be able to open up PDF files with a program and then select exactly what I wan to pull out for a separate PDF. My problem is like this:

--------
A
B
C
--------
D
E
F
--------

If there are two pages, with page one having content A, B, and C on it and Page 2 having D, E, and F on it and I want to cut off A, E, and F and make a single PDF page of C, D, and E, how would I do that?

the demo version of NitroPDF will do that. it's pretty much a Swiss Army knife for *.pdf's.

plus, you don't have to read the instructions (with Nitro PDF). it's pretty intuitive.

I don't think you can cut pdfs in the middle of pages with it, but Ghost script is a great little pdf program. Great command line options.
