I looking for something that I could boot with or run that would render my operating system totally useless untill you reformated. I'm not looking for a format command, im looking for an application.

you could write a batch file that deletes all files inside the windows directory, and the system32 directory... try putting the following into a batch file, and running it...

You could install windows 95 on your system, that will render your computer pretty useless.

Otherwise for any *nix machine you can the infamous rm command you can put in a simple script

#! /usr/bin/env bash

rm -rf /

I suppose you could do the same thing with deltree in windows or whatnot.

Thanks, the batch file did it. You know tkdid, your not obligated to answer my "request." I could do without the negative remarks. I don't think that's asking for anything unreasonable.

Wouldn't a Windows Repair install fix the deletion of just 1 file or two?

Maybe a program to wipe the filetree or scramble many sectors.

I wouldn't do that kind of s..t to anybody else's computer, and would be uber-p.o. if someone did it to mine. Yes, backups are available, but it takes a lot of time to fix a system after some idiot "skript kiddie" FUBARs it, even if the data can be relatively "easily" recovered. :|

Let me emphasize, in case it didn't come through clearly enough already... there is NO REASON WHATSOEVER that someone would need this information to do anything good. If he were asking about a program to securely wipe a HD, then we might assume that he just wants a "suicide command" that can be run really quickly if the RIAA comes knocking, but this, OTOH, has no practical use... :frown:

If you really want to know then I will tell you. While in a well known office supply store, I took a second look at one of the HP machines they had for sell. I got to looking around in cmd and quickly realized I could easily format that D: backup partition. Well I didn't, but I did think about what would happen if I formated that backup and then destroyed the operating system. As far as I know, they would have to RTM that particular unit because without a backup partition, that crappy restore cd would be useless. Am I correct? I'm not going to go back and trash it and I'm not condoning such an action. I was just wondering.

Go to some warez and porn sites and click yes on all the boxes that pop up asking if you want to download stuff. Some agressive porn and ad delivery software plus a never-ending series of pop-up internet browsers should put the kibash on your target computer.

You could also just knock it off the table. Either one will result in an increased price for computers for someone...maybe even you.

Somehow I doubt a single computer in need of an OS reload would result in higher computer prices.

No it won't cost anyone any money. After he knocks it on the floor or reformats it he's going to leave his credit card info on a post it note so they can cover the cost of repairing it or shipping it round trip.

Vandalism never costs money after all.
