Okay, I just installed icq through win2k to a seperate partition, then i installed icq again through win98 to the same directory on the same partition. Then, i restored a backup of my icq database by copying a backup folder called "2000b" and for some strange reason, when i execute icq in either os, my database doesn't show up. in other words, my icq list is still blank, even though i restored a backup of it.

You broke the number one rule with regards to multi-OS booting - keeping as much of one OS and the related programs as possible from the other(s).

I was under the impression from other people that i can run some programs commonly between the two, like icq.

My way may be a bit silly. But.... not knowing, well actually never bothered figuring out how to backup an icq database. I normally just copy the entire contents of the icq directory onto a seperate partition that I am not going to format. After formatting and reinstalling the OS I then install icq from the installation file. Then I copy back the icq directory that I copied out before I formatted and replacing everything that the installation did.

This way I find that all my database are back.

I know this may sound like a "brute force" way but hey it works ^^

whenever i reformat (which has been pretty frequently for whatever reason)
i have always copied the complete ICQ folder onto another partition, once i have re-installed win2k i'll re-install ICQ and then register it , once done i will shut ICQ down and then copy and paste the backup folder of ICQ
and i'll still have all my contacts in place .I have used this method countless times and never once lost any contacts or received files, one reason why my ICQ folder is over 80mb's in size 😀
