Program/script that KEEPS wireless WPA key configured?

Hi, I am managing about 30 laptops that all have wireless connection. I was wondering if anyone has made a program or script that KEEPS the WPA password locked in so if the user disconnects from the access point they don?t have to re-enter it in. Thanks!

Ditch WZC if you're using it and get the manufacturer's utility (Proset/Atheros Util/Broadcom, etc)

Create a static profile for the WAP and lock it down.

Should take you about 5 minutes, not including download time. 🙂

The thing is each laptop is from HP. They were all purchased at different times so they probably have different WNICs. I don't want to have to manage 30 different laptops seperatley and keep track of it. I want a utility/program/script that will do what I need, lock down the wireless WPA key so it cant be deleted/edited unless by me. And it will stay ON the computer so I dont have to re-enter it.

Any assistance? 🙂

I guarantee that the top two by percentage will be Intel, then Broadcom. You could always buy a lot of IPW2200 series Mini-PCI cards and standardize as well. 😛 😀

As long as they're the same manufacturer, you should be able to use the same wireless toolkit. It's really not difficult to do - you create one profile per manufacturer, then copy it to all the other computers. It might be a bit time-consuming initially, but you'll save a whole lot of reconfiguration later. 🙂

Intel has fantastic admin utilities for their WLAN cards. Be carefull if you are buying them for HP's, as they require custom F/W so you can't buy any old card and throw it in. It is this way for broadcom cards and HP's, but not sure about Intel cards. Broadcom does not offer a decent admin utility.

2 other options.

1. Go with radius authentication: their username and password allows them access to a rotating key, no static key required (need good ap's that support radius auth, a radius server, and something for usernames/passwords, such as LDAP, Active Directory, or a static list on the radius server)
2. WZC can be controlled/configured via GPO's. Don't ask me which ones/where, cause I'm a #1 guy (and also a pre #1...we have almost all Intel based WLAN cards)
