Can anything stop Toyota Motor Corp.? On Thursday, the leading Japanese automaker is expected to announce net profits of roughly $8 billion -- more than any Detroit automaker has made in any one year since at least the 1960s and more than GM, Ford and Chrysler combined made last year.

:Q:Q
Holy Sh!t! :Q

That's a lot of cash.

Although, the bolded part just makes me laugh. ;) LOL! That's just pathetic.

Toyota's profits aren't coming much from beleaguered Japanese consumers or Europeans, despite market share gains and the growing popularity of its cars there. They're coming from North America, particularly the United States.

American cash is funding Toyota's growth, new plant construction and an expanded product lineup from Detroit's chief competitor, making Toyota the standard by which Detroit's CEOs -- GM's Rick Wagoner, Ford's Bill Ford and Chrysler's Dieter Zetsche -- increasingly judge their own companies. The most appropriate word to describe Toyota's performance is "frightening."

Buahahah!!! Tops in quality with a sh!tload of cash. I'd be worried too :D

"Just think of it," says Ronald Harbour, a leading industry consultant based in Troy. "They've got enough cash to buy the rest of the industry. It's scary to think of the roll they're on."

ZOINKS!!:Q:Q

There is no "Big 3." Chrysler is now an import as well -- owned lock, stock, and barrel by Daimler. There is the "Big 2," and they're a-hurtin'. I have no doubts about Ford and GM's ability to survive, although they have their hurdles ahead.

They are opening up a plant in San Antonio next year. Don't know what part of their product line they are planning on manufacturing here and I don't care either.

I'm going to try to get on part-time in their IT department! Yes, with my meager A+ and Network+ certs (most probably MCSE or damn close by then) and a whole lot of real-world experience, I hope to get hired. You never know...foot in the door and all that stuff.

ps
Yes, I'm serious.

Ferrari's budget last year in Formula 1 was over 300 million dollars. Yes, that was millions. That's for a two car team that runs under twenty races. They have been dominant for the last five years or so.

When Toyota joined F1 recently corporate told them they had an "unlimited budget"- wonder how much that is.

BTW, they still have to produce (as far as race performance)...

there are soo many honda and nissan fanbois on this board. it's refreshing to see something on toyota.

toyota has always been the BEST japanese car company. they make a solid product.

too bad i won't buy japanese cars. :(

don't get all crazy on me here. i'll buy german, i'll buy korean, i'll buy british or any other foreign car out there, i just won't buy japanese.

BUT if i were to buy a japanese car it would undoubtedly be toyota/lexus.

BTW, Honda's SUCK.

The current MR2 is a frog-eyed convertible. The Celica is the only cheap "youth oriented" car that Toyota has right now (minus Scion). The Supra is dead (soon to be revived).

Honda OTOH thrives with the ricer crowd (Civic, RSX, S2000, Integra, etc)

Also, it's interesting to see Toyota doing so well especially since the black eye they received as a result of their engine sludge problems.

The whole term ricer is retarded anyway.

There is nothing wrong with making your car the way you want it, people have always been doing it.
