Profit on shipping, WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?

i visited e|3ay, and i was about to bid on an auction for micron ram, but then i saw the shipping price of 13 dollars. i was thinking, WTF IS THIS? 13 dollars for a goddamn stick of ram? where does he come up with 13 dollars? shipping a 1 pound package with insurance and delivery confirmation through usps will only cost 7-8 dollars, and that's an EXPRESS 2 day package too! unless this is going to be some overnight shipping deal, i think this is pure bullcrap.

What do you expect? The actual cost is probably $3.20 via Priority and I doubt the seller will buy insurance. That's almost $10 in profits right there.

well i guess maybe i've only been by decent sellers. but 13 dollars to ship a 6x1" piece of silicon is totally not cool.

damnit, but it's micron 7.5ns that runs at 2-2-2. ahh well, i've found another micron seller, but i don't know if it runs at 2-2-2 (as if i care)

Ahhhh... the memories of Pricewatch: The Early Years. Nothing like the following:

Windogg: Hi, how much for the stick of 128MB PC100 CAS2?
Leech: $40 plus shipping and handling
Windogg: OH BOY!!! I'll take one!!!
Leech: OK your total is $95 shipped UPS Ground
Windogg: HUH?!?!?
Leech: Oh, we charge a small handling fee for order processing and materials.
Windogg: Do you have the the entire Teamsters Local 69 packing the stuff in lead lined boxes? Well, I'll take two if the shipping is that high.
Leech: Ok, your new total is $190
Windogg: $190?!?!? Shouldn't it be $135!?!?!?
Leech: We charge shipping per item.

yep, thats how it works when you're dealing w/ some of those crap companies that are on pricewatch... I know how you feel.

But...the way I see it...

Method #1

Item = 50 dollars plus 5 dollars for shipping <---- (Honest...but when people see 50 dollars they're not interested)

Method #2

Item = 45 dollars plus 10 for shipping <------ ( over charing for shipping but you're spending the same either way.

In a retain store, you walk through and pick up your items and carry them to the register and then carry them out of the store...

In Shipping, an Employee has to go and gather your order up, then package it up and type up a shipping lable (which aslso costs more money) stack it on a truck (or however)...etc.

It costs' them a little bit of money... They charge you money... It's called business. Live with it.

😉

Actually, Whitedog,

In most of these places, even the little, crappy ones, you place your order online, and once it automatically charges your card, it automatically prints the packing invoice to tell them what to pack. Then it automatically prints the shipping label and your info is entered into the carrier's computer automatically. All they have to do is grab the item, put it in the box, and slap the label on. It's really not labor-intensive. With the volume of sales they do, it's NOT worth the money they are charging for "handling". Handling a piece of RAM is not worth $10.00, even if they have to drive to mailboxes Etc. and pick up a padded envelope for it. It's a crock, but yeah. Everyone is right. It's life. That's the way they do business. Get used to it.

I wanna be an employee at one of these stores if the labor that I have to do to go for an item and package it costs $35 USD.

it's not called shipping AND HANDLING for nothing. ;-)

yeah, some places rip you off. i basically know how much shipping SHOULD be ;-). if it's a few bucks more, i don't care. i don't buy from the cheapest place on pricewatch anyway. i have a core list of stores i would buy from, and i occasionally add to it. that is, it is added if I have good experience coupled with a price from pricewatch, and good ratings from resellerratings =)

there are less than 10 stores i'd buy anything from.

actually, those laborers are just laborers. no contract, no real benefits (health insurance, retirement fund)...
