Just curious. My future is undecided thus far. I know I'm in comps for sure, I just have to figure out where to go. Maybe some of the professional or just heavy programmers here can fill me in on what it's like, run me through a typical day of theirs. I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks :)

Come into work, read email, respond to a few, go sit in about 3 hours worth of meetings, sit at comp and type code all day.

Personally I can't wait 'til I get my mcse and become an admin.

What is an admin job like? How long does it take to get there?

You're question can be answered by watching Office Space.

"Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late, ah, I use the side door--that way Lumberg can't see me, heh--after that I sorta space out for an hour.
...
Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too, I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work.

As great a movie as office space is, it doesn't really help. :)

Well, if you're going to have that kind of a--hole attitude, good luck finding your answer.

Let's see. I work for a large telecom company as a developer, mainly working in Java, C, C++, Perl. Although I have an actual office, I am able to work from home most of the time. My employer picks up the monthly bill for my Road Runner cable connection. I usually read some email, and then start coding. Every other day, I have about 2 meetings. One is domestic and one is international to France. The meetings usually last about 90 minutes. I then get back to coding. I usually stop working around 3pm since I sit down at my computer around 7am. Some days I work less than 8 hours and some days I work more. That's about it. I usually have to fly to NY twice a year to meet with my department.

<< Trust me...when you get working, you WILL relate everything at work to Office Space. >>

This is actually true. Unlike him I'm not depressed though.

Personally I like my job quite a bit. I get a good pay, the environment is relaxing, I work with good people, and it sure beats shoveling sh*t.

Come into work, read email, respond to a few, go sit in about 3 hours worth of meetings, sit at comp and do random security stuff, lame routine tasks, read up on how the next OS is gonna make your current setup blow up.
Personally I can't wait 'til I get my master's degree and become an programmer.

It can be good fun, but sometimes it can be very boring and laborious. Cant really complain though as the money, job and envirmonment is all really good.

I sit in a cubicle and code all day but the one thing that is nice is .... getting the paycheck! There are so many days where I wish that I was back in college... but the paycheck is the ONE reason that makes me realize that I don't want to be back in college.
