Had any experience w/ these drives? Give me your thoughts. Both being OEM. I have a choice between the two for a trade.

edit- update the ASUS appears to be a good drive, but noisy as heck...still looking for someone that owns the Sony.

Thanks,

Jason :)

I've been using the ASUS for the past 6 months and it's been great. Fast and reliable, a little on the noisy side though.

I've had the ASUS 50X since the fall of 1999. It's one of the 2-3 components that have stayed the same in my system. This probably tells you something :)

i have the Asus too... rocks, but can be loud, but you can get a utility to set the speed to whatever you want... plus it plays CDs without software which is convenient...

I really like the Asus, I assume that is a CD-S500? Great drive, except for the fact that the CD-ROM drowns out the noise of low flying airplanes :)

Still, I'd got for the Asus, I fsucking hate Sony.

I am using the Sony 52X and it's works fine. It's actually not as noisy as I thought it would be.

The Asus 50X is the ONLY drive I will buy now. I don't care about the noise, just don't quit after 6 months.
