So i have a Gigabyte GA-8VT800 motherboard (http://www.giga-byte.com/Mothe...roducts_GA-8VT800.htm) and i'm upgrading my processor from a P4 1.8gighz 400fsb to a P4 3.0Egighz 800fsb w/ HT.
Well, after receiving the processor, i eagarly plug it into the board and boot to see if it works... and sadly it doesn't. The computer as a whole is running fine itself (just moments before w/ my old processor) tho i'm booting w/o any drives plugged in and only one stick of RAM. I try switching a couple other sticks of RAM to no avail. Finally I take the processor out, bring it to my friends computer who's running a computer w/ similar specs and he boots fine w/ the processor.
So the processor's not at fault... i can boot fine off of my friends processor (P4 2.4gighz 800mhz fsb w/ HT) so i know my motherboard's fine... anyone help me understand why the 2 wouldn't be compatible? O yea... i bought both the mobo and proc off newegg...
o yea, when i mean the computer booted to no avail i got NOTHING, not even bios... LCD monitor didn't even pick up the PC was on... didn't flicker the slightest
at first i was thinking something faulty w/ vid card but friends processor in my computer proved wrong
