I am running a self built computer. It is about three years old. A Pentium 4 3.2 gig processor--1 gig of memory on a Intel D865GBF motherboard--Antec SLK 1650 w/ 350 Watt SmartPower power supply--Mid tower case with two exhaust fans, one 120mm and one 80mm. Pulling air in, one 80mm and two 20mm ones built in to the hardrive cooler, plus the usual vent openings at base of the tower. XP Home OS.
Last week I added a DVD burner and a PCI IEEE 1394 firewire card to the already present CD Burner/DVD reader, not used floppy drive and the hardrive in the mentioned cooler. Generally cleaned the lint a crud out. I do have a program the shows the fan RPM's and temps in the area they are located. All of the fans are variable speed except the two 20mm ones, and they do show increased RPN as the temps go up.
The processor was cleaned and a new application of "Artic Silver" paste used within the last year. Since then, the processor has run at 42C at idle until adding these items. Now it is at 52C at idle. If I do much of anything, processor usage wise, the temp shoots up to 68C or higher!!
Intel information is that, that is too high.
Looking for suggestions from you guys that really know, before I tear it apart again!!
