processor seems to be running slow

hey all, i've got a problem where my comptuer is the same as my buddies less the processor and ram. i've got athlon 2000 with 512 ddr, radeon 9700np, but his athlon 1600 loads battlefield games faster than mine. i'm not talkinga a couple seconds, but his will be done loading and mine willstill have a good 20 second left. i benched my system against the scores in sandra's sisoft, and my cpu scores were right on par with what they should be. any suggestions on what i can check or another bench makr i can check to see what my be restricting my system. any ideas? thanks

p.s. i know 3dmark ain't so great, but i think part of the reason for only getting scores around 2500 may be part of this cpu limited thing

p.s.s. nothign is overclocked. everythign is running at stock in both systems, 133FSB

if your rig is StrongMad as indicated in your sig, the problem is likely right here...
Maxtor 60.0 GB @ 5400 RPMS
when you are loading the game, you are moving thae binary from the hd into ram and this is very dependant on hd speed. you should replace that slow hd with a modern faster 7200 rpm hd, preferrably one with the 8mb cache like a wd special edition or one of the new maxtors.

no actually, i just defragged on overnight thursday->friday

I would say your HDD is to slow, 5400 RPM. I just tested out my SCSI 15k RPM Cheetah hard drive and the maps load quicker than my 7200 RPM WD120JB.

It's awefully nice to be on the map and get the vehicle you want before anyone else 😀

Check to see if you have DMA enabled.
