Processor or Video Card ?!?!?! PLEASE HELP

😕
ok i need some help
i cant decide wat i need a video card or a processor i have 200 dollars to spend this is my rig rite now
Asus P4P800SE Mobo
Intel Pentium 4 1.8A GHz/512/488
Ram: 1 Gig of pc2100 DDr Ram
Hard Drive: Serial ATA 80 Gig Barracuda
Power Supply: 420W
Video Card: ATI 7500

I have 200 dollars to spend i cant decide between a
3.0E Pentium 4 with 800 MHz FSB 1MB Cache
or
ATI 9800 Pro 128 MB (256-Bit)

Graphics card, since if you get a new processor, you will also need new RAM or it will be severely handicapped.
PC3200 is a must with a 3.0GHz P4 as it has a 200MHz FSB.
Even then though, you will still struggle as the proc will hold you back a bit.
Ideally you would upgrade both, but it's not always an option (as I know myself).

WhatEVER you get do NOT get a Prescott proc - it runs way too hot and offers little to no performance over the cooler-running 3.0C 800FSB/DC/HT CPU. 😉

Finally, IF you're gonna spend $200 on a GPU, wait a bit - the Radeon 9800-256 can simply be flashed to a 9800-XT.

I didn't stop to figure, but you might be able to "get away with" a 3.06C - 533FSB P4 and your current RAM at a lower multiplier. 😉

see thats the thing my mobo is great wid prescotts so i was gunna get a presscot i have 11 fans in my computer so im not worried bout overheating imma overclock my 1.8 newayz to 2.4 since my mobo is safely to30% i just have no clue bout o/cin imma have to read up on dat tonite

y wuld i complain to u?? lol imma have that taken care of but see ur goin off topic i never asked u about ur opinion on heat issues i dunt realli give a **** so keep switchin topics and imma get ur punk as* s h o t :-D

No contest; the 7500 is a 1st generation GPU for pete's sake, the 9800 Pro should be about a factor of 4 times faster. It will still be a little CPU limited because of the 1.8ghz P4, but a faster processor without a new video card would get you nowhere.

PS I wouldn't reccomend waiting for a 256MB video card for the CPU limitations listed above; if you keep it through a system upgrade, it might make sense, but you have a Radeon 7500 for pete's sake :Q

I don't know why everybody says v/c's will be CPU limited, it won't be. It may not be AS fast, but still a very large gain in performance.

With 200 bux go with 9800 pro 256 bit edition, careful of the crappy Sapphire 128bit version.

Here's what you can do: take the $200 and buy 3 things actually for the upgrade. You can get the full set of Hooked-On-Phonics; a years subscription to the New York Times; and a Dictionary. In no time you'll be blazing at full English grammar level. And this will cut down severely on the excessive lag when people try and interpret what the hell your saying.

In no time, you'll have a Super-Grammar upgrade.

I like these words ... like "wuld" and "wright". Anyways

Get Radeon 9800 Pro, your 7500 is wayyyyyyy too slow

I have 2.6@3.2 ghz and a RAdeon 8500 which is almost 2x as fast as the 7500 card. My games are way too slow for my taste. Don't even dream about playing Halo or Far Cry at reasonable frame rates. So getting a 3.0ghz cpu would do absolutely nothing.

Get 9800Pro - hands down! Also 1.8As overclock like motherf*ckers.

Tsar and HOAX are two peas in the same pod. Literally. I will know to steer clear of their threads in the future.

These guys are TEH SUX0RZ. Sorry, I just wanted to fit in.
