Post...Good...Load operating system...Bad... Boot into 98 or 2000 and I get a screen either telling me I have an NtKernel error or a protection error. What can be done about this??? Please help...

Edit: I forgot to mention I am going from an 550Athlon Classic to a 800Athlon Classic.

I got the problem when I upgraded my system a while back... however I upgraded the mobo with the CPU also... I did a repair installation of win2k and it worked fine...

However I make it a rule to format my system whenever I upgrade... so I just did the repair installation to save my important documents and files...

No you don't have too. I change back and forth with my Duron 600@1050 to my T-Bird 750@1100 lots of times. Just go into your BIOS and make the correct changes. Thats all I ever do.

Have fun.

are you overclocking? sounds like voltage problem. i know when i overclock my chips that when i don't have the VCORE set right i get similar errors like yours. it is fixed by upping the VCORE for the CPU.

Thanks for all the replies. Turns out that even though the processor and motherboard would post correctly, that the processor was having an internal calculating issue of sorts. It was bad. The best they could do for me was replace it with a new 700. I can't complain to much. They refunded the difference and gave me a free fan and heatsink for it and a "nice t-shirt". Excellent customer service. Again, Thanks....
