Processor not identified in device manager.

When I go to device mngr. the processor is not recognized. It just has the yellow exclamation point and says unknown device. The processor is showing in my bios, and I do have it stepped up a bit. Could that be the issue? I suppose I could reconfigure to default settings and see if that is the issue. But, in the mean time any other ideas. (I am running an athlon xp 3200 barton) At least that's what the retail box said it was. I installed it on nf7s-v2 board that I have had for about 9 mos. Board seems great. Help!!!

Thanks,

Did that three days ago and still no help. I have Nf7s v2 and flashed bios updte #27. Good advice though. Thanks!

This would be a Windows issue, but I can't imagine why. Even overclocking the CPU shouldn't cause that.

Is this something that just started recently? If so you can try using System Restore to go back to a restore point prior to this happening.

Other than the exclamation in device manager, is the system running okay?

You could try deleting the device with the exclamation (I've NEVER tried deleting a CPU though so I don't know what would happen - I'd strongly suggest making a Norton Ghost image of the boot partition first).

Another suggestion would be to do a repair install of windows: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

A repair install will wipe the device manager and re-install all devices. You'll need to install all your latest drivers afterwards (Windows will only install it's generic drivers if anything) and install the latest service pack and Windows updates afterwards.
Hope this helps...
