processor needs a driver?

I noticed that winXP has an entry for the processor in device manager. When I go to properties and driver details, it says that it uses processr.sys. I have not seen this entry in any other version of windows. I thought processors didn't need a driver to function. Am I completely wrong here?
 
Its a driver for power management features included on the processor. They need OS support to work properly
