Processor+Mobo+PCIE

ok here is the deal i already have a socket 478 processor and i need to get a new PCI express mother board so can some one help me find one

There aren't a lot of options for socket 478 boards with PCI Express x16.

I didn't look around for anyone selling these boards, but a few to look for:

ASRock P4Dual-880Pro

Asus P4GD1

Albatron PX915P4C Pro

but only i could only agree with one of those,
one of the boards supports ddr sd ram.. i already have ddr ram and cant buy new ones and the other board only supports some of the video card

If you're upgrading the motherboard and video card, a cheap PentiumD isn't a terribly expensive addition. By sticking with a 478 processor and board now, you're forcing yourself to have to buy a new motherboard AGAIN when you are ready to get a faster CPU.

Most 478 boards are discontinued. It's a pretty questionable idea to be spending money on that kind of upgrade ... especially given that all the PCI-E 478 boards NewEgg has are over $100.

You might want to check into eBay or the FS/FT forum.

Why not get a new PC that is good for taking to the LAN parties, and invest this money into making that machine as awesome as possible? Why do you need to have a new machine that you can't carry around, and one older, slower machine that you can?

and one more thing.. since i only have a agp 4x board im also looking at the agp 8x ones, so can some one give me a link to a comparison/performance for a same card (6600 gt for example) on PCIe and AGP

Going with a PentiumD will mean you will have to get DDR2 (a few boards take DDR).

AMD prices are dropping like mad. Get a skt 939 mobo/AMD cpu, keep the RAM, sell the p4 on ebay. Plus you will pay and AGP premium, you can easily pick up an x850XT for under $140 in the PCIE version. Again, check Ebay and you will see the AGP versions going for much more.

Nobody's suggesting a top end machine. You didn't mention what CPU you actually have, but I'd be willing to bet a $60 Sempron 64 and a $55 Socket 754 PCI-E motherboard would be a significant upgrade to what you currently have, and it would be about the same price as the motherboard you're talking about getting. Same price, better CPU.

You haven't given many details, but it's hard to envision a scenario in which it is remotely practical to buy the motherboard you're talking about. You're essentially saying that you want to spend $100 on a throw-away motherboard then buy a video card that would be bottlenecked by your old CPU.
