Processor/Mobo Combo Help

micro ATX
should i choose amd or intel
and how fast should it be
or if you wanna give me some possible combos, that would be sweet

List all the things you want to do with the HTPC (gaming? recording? ...)

are you going to be doing encoding on this?
if so go with a dual core x2 or if you want to waste a lot of money, an intel
if not, an a64 3000+ will do fine

for the mobo, just pick an asus m-atx with the features you need

no gaming, just videos music and photos, and maybe the possibility of encoding, but i dunno for sure on that

From what you have said an intel set up with HT will be fast and better. But as soon as you have gaming, amd is always better overall. So unless you will be the sole user and you have no interest in gaming then go with AT's Budget Intel set up except for the cheapest P4 with HT. I am doing pretty much what you want to do with a Asus A7N8X/M Barton 2500/512 MB/9800, but I have tried out the intel setup and its definitely faster.
