Ok, let me just get it out of the way that Im stupid. No question about it. So please dont get mad at my stupid question.

Im trying to install the processor on the motherboard and ive put the chip in the slot and locked it. But I feel like Im putting too much pressure on the level for the fan. This metal thing sticks out both ends and im supposed to lock it in and I dont want to put too much force.

Anyone know what im talking about? Did I do something wrong or should I just force it down?

The clip on the HSF? There usually preatty tight, which is good. Keeps it nice and secure. Im fairly sure what your seeing is normal.

slot? what kind of processor is it? does it sit in a slot (line) or a socket (square)? If it is slot, just align the heatsink and push. if it is socket, make sure the heatsink is sitting right. It does take a lot of force, but if you have it sitting correctly, you shouldn't damage the processor.

First off what kind of CPU and Heatsink are you using?

Now if you think about the design of the clip it is in a curve. So as you push down and make it flater it will of course get longer. So it should slowly stretch out and clip on.
