Processor Heat Problem

Hi,

I just built my new computer, and I am concerned with the CPU temperatures.

My system:

Pentium D 830 @ 3.0GHz (Stock Cooler)
4GB Corsair DDR2-533
Asus P5LD2 Deluxe
N6600 128MB PCI-E
Lian Li PC-V1000 Plus
Win XP Pro / Win XP 64 Dual Boot

I've always used AMD processors and this is my first experience with an Intel, so I'm not really sure what temperatures are acceptable. I've always heard that Intel processors run a lot hotter.

The idle temps for the processor have been about 50-55C according to the BIOS/Everest. When I first tried putting a load on the system, doing video encoding while running Prime95 in the background, I got temperatures up to 70C. It didn't go higher than 70.

I tried opening the side of the case and using a house fan to get some air moving through there, that did not help the temps at all.

I'm wondering if the temperatures are too hot? Even though I'm not overclocking, I'm going to be putting a significant load on this system, doing multithreaded 3D rendering, video editing/encoding, and the like. The system will most likely run 24/7. I want to make sure that I address any cooling problems now, and if I need to replace the HSF, than so be it. Thoughts?

Thanks

Ezra on my p4 3.2 EE my idle temp is 33c with stiock cooling.
I have never seen my CPU even under load over 45c......come to think of it maybe even 40c.....

Also ezra perhaps you need to get a different CPU cooler such as a Zalman or a Thermalright brands.

Such as the CNPS7700cu from zalman or the xp90cu or xp120 from thermalright!!

All 3 or good solid heatsinks!!

I just rodered the XP120!!!

Also just incase somebody should suggest you get as5 thermal paste!!

Remember in and of itself the thermal paste will not acount but for a few degrees difference and it does not take the place of proper cooling!!

Good Luck!!

Thanks for the reply Yoda.

I decided on a Thermalright XP90 with a Panaflo 92mm 69CFM fan. I also ordered some AS5.

When I remove the Intel HSF, I assume I'll need to clean off whatever thermalpaste is left on the processor. How should I go about doing that w/o damaging it?
