Processor doesn't fit into Mobo

I just got a new processor and motherboard for christmas. The processor will not fit into the motherboard, even though all the pins appear to be lined up and unbent. Do you have any ideas on what I can do?

Sometimes there's a mark on the top corner of the processor that corresponds to a mark on the socket. Usually there are pins missing in one or two corners of the processor. Look at the bottom of the processor and then at the socket and line it up. There are only four possible ways for it to go.
Edit: I'm only an hour and twenty minutes down the road from you. I'll head on up. (Just kidding)
 
I did that. It will only go in along the edges, so I'm assuming there is a bent pin somewhere in the middle, but everything appears to be lined up.
 
There are missing pins in the middle. Look here. See the solid colored areas?

For bent pins, I kind of hold it up and sight along the rows in several directions. A ball point pen with cartridge removed works good for gently straightening the pins.

My parents grew up in Bay City.

And the faster I type, the more mistakes I make. I'm tired of editing for spelling errors.
 
I've looked at it from every angle and they appear to all be in line, but the processor still wont fit in the motherboard.
 
The only thing I can think of is that the lever needs to be moved as far as it can go. You can usually see the movement through the pin holes.
 
Yes it is lined up like the picture. Yes, I checked the models. Yes, I am starting to think the hammer is my best method 😛
 
I suppose it's possible a blob of solder could have gotten into one or more of the holes in the socket during manufacturing. For me, it would take a magnifying glass to tell.
 
Well I got it to fit and I have everything assembled. I press the power button and nothing happens. (Nothing turns on, nothing!)

This is a really bad Christmas.
 
Is the rocker switch on the Power Supply in the on position?

Another possibility is that the motherboard is shorted to the case. This can be through a misplaced standoff, or commonly, that an EMI spring on the I/O shield is sticking inside one of the ports instead of laying on top of it. This is easy to do and something I always double check on a new build.

I have gotten into the habit of starting up systems outside of the case first on new builds. You can start it up by momentarily shorting across the two pins for the case power button connector.

Also, another good troubleshooting step is to start the system with just the procesor (and cooling device), ram and video card. Just one stick of ram is good way to go also if you will be running multiple sticks. This is all the system needs to make sure the board will power up. Your motherboard has multiple connections for power. Make sure they are ALL plugged in. Same with your video card. It MAY have a power connector on it.

I have to ask .......... is this your first build?

And .......... at this point, you really should tell us what components are going into the system. Especially the Power Supply. Don't need links necessarily.

Well according to my motherboards manual a powersupply with 20 pins can cause it to be unbootable, so I ordered a new power supply. (Old one came with case)

This is my second build, my first actually went a lot better.

I'm looking at this right now:
AMD 64 4000+ OEM from TD
ECS KN1 Lite
Arctic cooling Freezer 64 Pro
XFX 7900 GS Xtreme Edition
2x Kingston ValueRAM PC3200
NEC 2510A DVDRW
Seagate 120GB Internal
*BEING REPLACED* 400W PSU that came with my case

I really hope the new powersupply fixes the problem. If not, its the motherboard because an LED isnt even lit when I turn on the powersupply.
