Don't know if i should get 2.6c or 2.8c for o/cing to 3.0 (should be enough for me)

Right now i have 2.4b0 (533 FSB) and don't want to keep it any longer since i have a motherboard which supports 800 fsb procs and ddr400 ram which now runs downclocked because of the lower bus speed

Have you checked out Duvie's work? He always seems to be reporting on OCing efforts with the P4's you mention. If you find some of his posts you might get a good indication of the OCing potential of those two cpus.

EDIT: Maybe give him a quick PM to ask him which you should choose

Seeing as you have Buffalo pc3200, I would suggest the 2.8C, so you dont have to go to far out of spec on the ram speed. And do you have 1x512, or 2x256?

honestly ?
keep the 2.4b

I have a 2.4c and a 2.53b, both at 3.0 and performance is so similar its pissing me off :)

Hmm.. Maybe I just should get another 512mb stick 'o ram

How similar is the performance?

P.S. what ram do you have now ? capacity and type
is it running dual ? dual does make a difference

Buffalo pc3200 512mb w/ Winbond bh5 chips, not dual (my mobo does support dual channel ddr ram)

First off....If it is tested through the whole range of application I can tell you from doing extensive testing that te p4c oc'd to same range as my p4b was faster in a multitude of test...

i will round this review up for you...I tested..

p4 2.4b@3.24ghz w/ 450mhz ddr in single channel mode (albatron i845pe chipset)

p4 2.4b@3.24ghz w/ 360mhz ddr in dual channel mode (Abit IC7) was faster then above!!!

p4 2.6c@3.25ghz w/ 400mhz ddr in dual channel mode (abit IC7) was faster then them all

Second he must have not tested any hyperthreading test cause there is no way you can compare them and say they felt the same...unless you only game and no multi-tasking there should have been notice difference...check my review on that...

Get the p4c 2.6 or 2.8c and don't be afraid to run it in 5:4 ratio (I got a review on this as well) if this thing oc's further then 3.0ghz..it very well could have since my 2.6 did 3.25ghz and my 2.4 does 3.5ghz....

P4b vs P4c at same speed...I have some other testing I add to this...

P4b vs p4c review

Hyperthreading Performance Increases

OK!!! Now here lies the most important info listed....

What board is there that supports 800mhz fsb and not dual channel ddr??? Don't tell me we are talking about Sis or VIA here...

Read my Dual channel versus single channel comparison in the p4b vs p4c...In that change alone there lies a decent performance enhancement. That bandwidth is key to runningwith the 800fsb. The p4 800fsb will produce 6.4gb/sec of bandwidth and you are only going to supply half of its needs...That is a shame to run a 800fsb chip in a single channel mobo...

go ahead and disregard my reviews excpet HT but now I question whether the board supports HT as well....

go dual

Id say thats the upgrade route you should take, get a new mobo (abit IS7e is very nice and $ resonable [yep I got one]) and another stick of the same ram you've got (make sure its the same or sell the one you have and get a dual box)

we read "does not support dual" for some reason (probably due to the absence of a second memory module)

well get that second stick of ram and see how it goes, if you'r still unhappy go with a 2.8cpu (2.6 will have higher % OC, but 2.8 will be better for optimal configuration)

Dude!!! that is a dual channel ddr mobo....All i865 and i875 chipsets are dual channel capable...the E is the same as the reguialr IS7 with some of the special onboard lan stuff and a few other special features missing....

Get another stick of ram or sell that buffalo 512mb and get 2 sticks of 256mb if money is tight....Then get the p4c!!!

I know its a dual channel memory mobo

I'm sort of worried that i will not get much $$$ when i'm going to sell my processor if i'm going to wait that long, and Prescott is coming out relatively soon

I want the best possible performance in games, i noticed that some of them (newer games) stutter :(

My video card is fine- Ati 9800P

Hmmm...this is what threw me off

" Buffalo pc3200 512mb w/ Winbond bh5 chips, not dual (my mobo does support dual channel ddr ram)"

What games are stuttering now???

Are you ocing that 2400 now??? if not trust me a p4 3.0c with 800fsb versus 533fsb and then dual channel ddr (get another stick) will be faster. I think that 9800pro card should be able to play all current games even at 2400 speed...

Maybe HL2 and some of the soon to be released games may stress you a bit but that is with 1028res and AA settings...Just turn that down

Call of Duty, Chrome, etc..

Not o'cing my current proc

I'm noticing some stuttering @ 1024x768 resolution (No AA, No AF)
