Processor DIE

I installed my first heatsink/fan today on my new 1.2ghz processor. I bet you guys have heard this a thousand times, but I didnt follow directions very well. Anyway, I chipped a very tiny piece off the corned of the die. I havent got my video card yet, but I put my friends in, and booted it. I didnt have HDs in, I just wanted to see if it would boot. It booted and detected the processor at the correct speed. It even let me overclock to 1.4ghz. But it didnt have any HD and thus no OS. Do you think it will be okay?

If it booted then most likely it's perfectly fine, though their is still a small chance you've caused damage that may cause instability. Still, in 99% of cases if it'll boot then it's perfectly fine.

Be more careful next time... it wouldnt be fun to kill a 1.2GHz Athlon.

Guys above are right on. Also, I recomend you dont use a artic silver type thermal paste, there are reports of it getting in cracks in a core and causing problems (i.e. let all the smoke out).

Hmm, I heard artic silver ii was the best stuff TO use... What should I use, thing is, its already on there....

Trust me, I learned my lesson. At least I know how to put one on now, once I did it correctly it was easy.
