processor comparison

Ok, I know this is a dumb question, but I need to know:

How does a Celeron 356 @ 3.33 Ghz compare to a C2D @ 1.8 Ghz

My gut says C2D hands down, but the huge speed difference makes me wonder.

Please help

C2D without a doubt, plus the fact that you can OC the C2D with stock cooling to at least 2.4, but more likely above.

Thanks guys...I pretty much knew that but needed to be sure. Can anyone provide me with a benchmark comparison or any numbers? I have to justify the cost for replacing one in a workstation.

There most likely won't be any comparisons because even when that Celeron was new it wasn't considered a top performer, so they aren't even close to being in the same class. But if it will make you feel better you can look up comparisons of Pentiums of roughly the same speed as your Celeron to C2D's, and you'll still see the C2D blow it away. Add that to the fact that the Celeron is even slower than the Pentium and you can get an idea of how much better the C2D would be.

Thanks a bunch. We're running a really tight budget right now, so I really have to prove to my boss that the upgrade will be worth the performance kick.

Huge difference. I went from a Northwood P4 running at 3.45GHz to a stock E6400 at 2.13GHz and the C2D absolutely smoked the hell out of the Northwood which was no slouch either.
