Processor, a step up or down?

I'm going from my desktop with an AMD X2 4200 to my new college laptop with a C2D T7200 2.0Ghz 4Mb L2, in terms of performance is this an upgrade or a downgrade? its been hard to find desktop to laptop processor charts and the like, thanks.

Oh yeah and one more, is there any benefit to 4Gb of readyboost flash? Will it all be used and if so will it be better than say 1Gb?

A 2.0 Ghz C2D is a step up from an X2 4200, just not a huge one. For instance, depending on the application being used, a 2.1 Ghz E6400 is roughly the equivalent of an X2 4800. And whether or not you'll want to use more than 2GB of flash for ReadyBoost will depend entirely on how much system RAM the system has, and whether or not you'll be using apps that require large amounts of RAM.

Well the laptop will have 2Gb so that shouldent be such an issue. But I will be using Vista . . . So basically with the procs there will be a very slight increase in performace? That sounds like a good deal. Thanks.

Yeah, the processor is a bit faster, though the hard drive is likely slower, so depending on what apps you'll be using, it might feel slightly slower.

Well thats why Im thinking the 4Gb readyboost might help a little, I mean I do have this flash drive just sitting here, might as well use it, but the drive in my laptop will be 7200 so it shouldent much matter either way.

if it's just sitting there, do it. AT did some testing with readyboost when Vista came out, it helps, not a ton, but it helps. Especially if you frequently have a lot of different memory-intensive programs open throughout the day, the readyboost will help, otherwise the 2GB of main memory should pretty well cover it.
