in my task manager my CPU usage is always between 50-60% even when i dont have many things open and i have a dual core pentium D computer with 1GM RAM ... why is it like that?

in the "Processes" tab, why does System Idle Process stay around 50 CPU even though its less than 100K? and i have something thats called SymWSC.exe that uses around 50 CPU aswell and it less than 5,000K... help

EDIT: if my HijakcThis log would help, it can be found here ... http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...?catid=28&threadid=1835457&STARTPAGE=1

ok, you have a lot f stuff running, that process is symantec's it looks like your runnig a virus scan, or its conflicting with your other firewall, the trent micro one, if you have norton internet security installed, which related to the SymWSC.exe

how did you uninstall norton? did you remove everything that was norton and everything that was symantec, and the liveupdate things in add/remove software? another thing you can do to cut down on those programs starting up, though norton must be completely uninstalled, is to run msconfig and under the start up tab, uncheck programs you know you do not need booting up with your pc. this does not remove them from your pc, only prevents them from starting up, which will in cases like this, lower the amount of running processes down to somewhere like mid 30s and make the pc much more responsive. you also should not use multiple anti-viruses on a pc since it will slow it down and cause conflicts, as soon as you completely remove norton, you should no longer see that process, if you still do, use msconfig to uncheck it and see if everything is better.

well i'm not actually running 2 anti-viruses, the Norton that is left behind is only a portion of Norton that seems to only show me my Virus protection (PC Cillen), my firewall (PC Cillen), and Windows Automatic Update (on) ... so I dont know why that wasnt uninstalled... and i honestly dont know what programs i DONT need for sure (other than that norton thing I guess lol)

I really reccomend trying to completely uninstall norton as you also may be having service conflicts with trend micro and norton. Try this link: Symantec's Removal Page

There's more info listed on symantec's site, and more aggressive uninstall methods which they outline there.
