I was really "jazzed" wehn I finally but my new system together ( Asus 925x mobo, Nvidia 6600 256 PCI expess, are the main additions ) but was totally dissatisfied with the performance. On my old system ( Asus 875p mobo and Nvidia 5900 ) i scored alot higher on 3d Mark 03 ( 5900+ = old, 4200 = new ).
I think I figured out what the problem is but cant figure out the sollution

THe video card came with a VTUNER program that amongst many other thing, tell you the core clock speed and memory speed. It read 299 clock speed and 551 memory. THis couldnt be right! I went to the gigabyte web site to see what it should be...no luck...I found a review that says it should be running at over 500 clock sped and over 1000 on memory speed.

Is anyone else having this problem!!!!! I need some help!!!! Do I need to return this card???

THanks

300/250(500DDR) sounds right for a plain 6600.
You are thinking of a 6600GT.

EDIT: Wrong DDR speed.

The plain 6600 is 300 core and 250(500DDR) memory. Some manufacturers will vary that a bit. I saw one with a 325 core. The GT is 500 core and 500(1000DDR) memory. Again these can vary a bit as I saw one with 550(1100DDR).

The GT's have DDR3 as opposed to the plain DDR of the regular card.

okay if thats what its suposed to be, so be it...but then it makes sense that my old system with the ASUS P4800 and the Nvidia 5900 would score 2700 more on 3d mark03 than the new system?

3dmark is a great game.

return it and get a 6600gt, then you'll see the performance you expected =)

Yeah but in the PCI Express version, I was told this was the best that is out there right now......
Damn....i just thought with the 6600 ( sure not top of the line ) I would get better fps than my 5900...especially with the better processor, ddr ram, and new mobo...damn!!!

THanks for the replies guys

There are apparently some horribly slow 6600's out there. I can't imagine what the one with the 64 bit memory is like. Apparently you have a mid range card with a bit faster memory than standard. I suppose it's possible that your 5900 could beat it.

GeForce 6600 GT PV-N43UE(128LD) 500 1000 128 128 Bit
GeForce 6600 Golden Limited PV-N43ED(256KD) 300 600 256 128 Bit
GeForce 6600 Ultimate PV-N43ET(256KD) 300 500 256 128 Bit
GeForce 6600 Ultimate PV-N43ET(128KD) 300 500 128 128 Bit
GeForce 6600 PV-N43E(128LD) 300 400 128 64 Bit
GeForce 6600 PV-N43E(128KD) 300 400 128 128 Bit

I believe I have the last one on your list....and I thought that it is possible for the 5900 to beat it....but by over 50%...thats just stupid!

There are a lot of 6600gt's available in pci-e. I'm not sure who's telling you a normal 6600 is the best there is, but they are quite wrong.

Put a 5200 in an fx-55 system it will still suck =)

PCI-E cards are no faster than their AGP brothers.
Unless you spring for two and an SLI mobo. :D

Well thanks guys....looks like Im gonna either go back to my old system, trade the 6600 for a better one, or stya as is and use the new system as a server!

If I do get a new PCI Express to replace the one I have, any suggestions???
I would appreciate make, model, etc..

THanks again...Sorry for all the questions but after spending some serious Cash on my new system, I would really like it if I ...liked it....

Just exchange it for a 6600gt. <the gt at the end is important> It should be clocked around 500/1000

They are under 200 dollars so I can't imagine its much more expensive than what you paid

no its not...I paid I think $139.....but again, Im kind of scared that onece I get this, then It will only be slightly higher than what my 5900 clocked...then it seems like a waste!

You should be able to pick up a 6600gt in PCI-e for $180. The vanilla 6600 is crap...that 256MB of memory, which you paid extra for, is a *complete* waste on that card as its bus and slow speed are major bottlenecks.

The 6600gt should trounce the 5900, even with the 5900 running benchmarks in DX8.
