problems with zone alarm.

I just installed zone alarm the other day and I'm having problems already. When I start Windows up zone alarm says that it has found a new network. It gives you a couple choices of either sharing or not sharing, and I selected sharing. Then after that the window pops up saying that I have no Internet connection. I then have to call up my Internet provider and have them reset my connection. Can anybody help me out with this? I'm running Windows XP with service pack two.

Do you have a router, or does your computer plug straight into the modem without a router instead? What is the IP address of the "new network" that's being detected (example: 192.168.0.x or such).

Ok, start by getting a router and setting that up. Here's my recommendation along with some info on setting it up extra-good: http://www.omnicast.net/~tmcfadden/guides/build/router.html The router will shield your computer from the brunt of the worm/hack attacks, even if you don't go through the extra lockdown stuff.

If you have no router yet, then you should've added the "new network" to the Internet Zone, because what is being detected is the ISP's network, and you sure as heck don't want to be trusting any computers from there. Get that fixed pronto.

If I remember correctly if you turn off computer along with modem then back on each time, ISP issued you with different IP number each time that is why ZoneAlarm says "New Network" each time you start computer.

Like Mechbgon said, get a router now.
